Students are expected to maintain an artist book with blank pages. *This item is expected to be in class each day.
The sketchbook represents your experience during the semester that may reveal itself in the form of an art object over time. The most important feature of this project is the process. It is all about cultivating the habit and discipline of carefully and consistently recording your thoughts and ideas in your artist’s book. It will include the documentation of your ideas, designs for assignments and projects, sources of influence and inspiration.
Besides 2-3 monthly-critiqued homeworks (25-50 points) use your sketchbooks during free class time and at home. Fully experiment and use any style or material you choose. Look for materials wherever you go! (Combine imagery from magazines, with photos, paintings, creative writings etc.) Walmart, art stores, home improvement stores, flea markets, and everyday items are my favorites. Bottled shoe polish, a variety of tapes: duct tape, packaging, electrical.., stencils, assorted markers, pens, papers….are a few supplies to name a few. Most things can be used to make fine art.
